We operate a sustainability aware business, including:
- We are all teleworkers and use foot, bicycle or public transport to travel.
- Longer distance interaction is almost all via the internet.
- We recycle.
Our greatest carbon producing activity comes from our servers, which are operated by our partners, LNC Limited:
- They were pioneers in the area of teleworking and were the technology providers for the EU commissions DG13 Telework organisation.
- Their HQ is based on an ecologically operated farm where all by products are slurried and recycled on the land.
- They do not use weed killers, fertilisers or organ-phosphates.
- They continue to use mixed level planting, which even if non “organic” is much more friendly to wildlife.
- They minimise the use of mechanical agricultural techniques.
- They stress the importance of hedgerow maintenance and tree/bush planting.
- They encourage, by habitat manipulation, a balanced predator/prey environment which has eliminated mixamitosis.
- They use only low power CPUs and disks.
- They minimise or eliminate the use of paper.
- They encourage pro-bono work to the extent of a tithe, but only to causes we think can benefit from it.
- They personally operate carbon sequestration to the extent of 15-25 kilos per person.
- They have active programs in place to exploit renewable energy resources such as wind, solar PV and geo-thermal.
- They have an active energy saving program in place, for example insulated walls and ceilings, triple glazed windows and travel minimisation.
- Their total HQ power consumption averages less than 3KW from the grid.
- Their total company power use is little more, home and work included, than a normal person would use at home.
- They constantly seek to curtail power use and have reduced power consumption by 35% in five years and expect to achieve further reductions in the next two.
- They are carbon negative, by virtue of active management of their HQ site.
- They have a company program of research into energy issues and seek to involve all employees in this.
